This Website / Blog gives you an impression from my journey to become a Sound Engineer / Producer. To achieve this I started 2 courses at the Wisseloord Academy in Hilversum.

The first course is DAW.
This stands for Digital Audio Workstation and focuses on recording, producing and mixing in DAW software. You can mix and edit at home on your laptop and use thousands of samples of instruments, voices, clips and effects.  You can use the software also as recording studio. Doing that at home is more challenging as this requires more equipment and a suitable room from and acoustic perspective.

The second course is Analogue Recording and Mixing.
Working in a studio to record music Live and Mix it on the professional equipment of the Studio. The 2 courses are very connected. What you start in the studio environment you can edit and finalize at home.
It is my choice to be able to do both at home. This means I invested in software and hardware to be able to record at location. I bought some microphones, an 18 channel Audio Interface (replacing the limited sound-card in the MacBook), some mike-stands and cables.

I will give in the blog information about the lessons:
  • What did I learn
  • Other items related to the Academy
  • The development of my home-studio

Next to this I will keep you posted on my own projects.
